Here are some of the red carpet trends!

Are you a light and lacy type of girl? Or do you like light and modern and minimalist?

Or do you like dark and shimmery and shiny and sparkly?

Personal favorite: Sandra in Elie Saab

The Oscars - Jessica Chastain's Look

Since this mid-Feb of this year, the Academy Awards have officially been renamed as The Oscars. Oscars has been sort of the term of endearment almost to the Academy Awards and for the longest time it has been referred to as such.

I have watched Zero Dark Thirty and loved the movie and was looking forward to seeing Jessica Chastain's Oscar red carpet look (a super far cry from her slacks/shirt/jeans look in the movie). She did not disappoint....

Okay now, let's talk makeup! On the red carpet this year, many of Hollywood's brightest opted for eye drama and subtle lips. There were a lot of nude lips (Catherine Zeta-Jones & Charlize Theron) pale pink lips (Anne Hathaway & Jennifer Lawrence) and maybe a little blush and I noticed less on the big dark brow trend of last year. Apart from the nudes and soft pink lips, Jessica Chastain's bright bold red puckers also graced the red carpet. Channeling the glamour of old Hollywood with the curled hair and classic silhouette of a gown, this Oscar nominee (Zero Dark Thirty) wowed critics and wowed fashion fans around the globe.

To get Jessica's look here are some suggestions:

  • Eyes - MeMeMe Eye Sweep (Felt-tip Eyeliner) & MeMeMe Fat Cat Mascara
  • Lips - MeMeMe Satin Lip Cream in Aphrodite
  • Highlighting - MeMeMe Shimmer Stack in Gold
Jessica has naturally fair skin and the ruby rich shade of Aphrodite show the shape and curve of her lips beautifully. She kept hey eye makeup minimal to keep the focus on her bright red lips. To make eyes pop like Jessica's, apply the liquid liner thicker on the outer corner of the eye while gradually making it thin up until the inner corner. Skip eyeliner on the bottom. Make your lashes thicker by using a volumizing mascara such as MeMeMe's Fat Cat Mascara. To finish off, a shimmer powder such as MeMeMe's Shimmer Stack in gold can be used as contouring and highlighting powder at the same time. With a big round brush, sweep across the darker colors in the Shimmer Stack and apply just below the cheeks. The lighter shades of the Shimmer Stack can be applied to where sunlight would naturally hit your face. This gives it a sunkissed glow.

I hope you like this look as much as I do!

Drinks & Dresses

Hey! It's the Kikay Goddess' first post! Today, I wanted to share with you some of the designs of one of my favorite designers, Lela Rose, juxtaposed with cocktail photos by pepper.ph. The dresses are from Lela's Spring 2013 collection. You can check the entire collection at lelarose.com

I have always admired the food photography of the pepper.ph team and loved their fun recipes too! The vibrant colors of their cocktails (and their props) made me think of colorful fabrics and spring dresses. I wouldn't remember how I actually connected the two but usually, I would look at a collection and compare it to food, like, if a dress' shade is pastel I would say "the dress is marshmallow pink". I guess most women also has that tendency to call a color by their food counterpart. There's Salmon Pink, Chocolate Brown, Caramel, Blueberry, Mandarin Orange and the list goes on and on. I'm sure you're now thinking about other food-color names. :)

So I went all matchy matchy and picked out color schemes from the cocktail photos that went with the super fabulous dresses from Lela's. Her designs are all something that I would definitely wear. I think the cut and silhouette of the dresses will suit and flatter many shapes.

Overall, this is my take on the color trends of Spring 2013 made more fun with cocktails. Anyway, it's almost always more fun if there's a bit of alcohol, right? :)

Don't forget to check out pepper.ph. They are also on Facebook and Pinterest! :)

Cheers!
